10 things to do to get a mower deck ready for use after sitting for a while. Should check these things at least once a year.
Be sure to check the owners manual as well.
- Check Gear Box Oil level and color
- Grease EVERYTHING! Don't forget the tail wheel.
- Hook up to tractor and move it to check for animals under it. Check for spilled oil after moving it. May indicate oil leak.
- Put the Mower Deck up on Jack Stands and crawl under it.
- Inspect the blades. they should rotate freely on their hub pivots.
- Check that there is nothing wrapped around the drive shaft.
- Inspect the blade edges and make sure nothing is bent.
- Check all teh bolts on the machine for torque.
- Focus on the bolts for the drive unit
- Check the sheer bolts, and be sure we have extras.
- Check that the deck is level, left to right.
- Little lower in the front than in the back. (Tilt forward slightly)
- Check the height of the deck on the ground.
- Remember the blades are above the outer chassis.
- Mark the three-point level area for this setting
