Design Tiny House for Island
From RiceFamily Wiki
Issue
The Island currently has limited sleeping opportunities. As our Families grow up, there will be an increasing need for more capacity on the Island.
Problems
- As the number of people on the Island increases, there is an matching increase on the load on the septic system. There have been very interesting improvements in composting toilets in the last few years, so that might be a possible solution that allows us to avoid having to install large septic systems.
- Part of the Aesthetic of the Island is that it's "Primitive". We don't want to install too many expensive creature comforts, or things that require lots of complex maintenance.
Solutions
The Tiny House movement has presented some interesting solutions that might be applicable to the Island situation. The idea is to install a pair of small housing units that are self contained in terms of their septic systems. The "Tiny Cabins" would be intended to be used in conjunction with the main cabin. For this reason, the Tiny Cabins might not have full kitchens to avoid the need to put a leach field and septic system in for them.
Need to look up what Code requirements are for this type of setup.
