Dishwasher

Wouldn't you know it, the week after we replace the Stove, the Dishwasher dies! It was 13 years old, we originally replaced it a few years after our son was born, and apparently time to replace it. 13 years seems both long and short!

What we bought

The review from Dishwashers.reviewed.com refers to the control panel as being "Glossy Black", but the unit we purchased has a chromed control panel. I'm not sure that all of the review is going to apply as it seems that Bosch has revamped the design, at least superficially. I'll do some additional digging to see if I can find more information about the current iteration of the unit.

KitchenAidFire.com

In looking at our options, I came across http://kitchenaidfire.com and it's put me off the KitchenAid (and related) brand of products. That many fires in the control panels of an Appliance should have resulted in more of a response from the manufacturer.

Currently, there appears to be a pending Class Action Lawsuit (http://www.kleinlyons.com/class-actions/current/whirlpool-dishwashers-class-action/). I'm not sure how much weight to give this site. It seems to be a Troll site for people unhappy with Sears products. It doesn't diminish the concerns about fires, but I'm debating how heavily I should weight it in my decision about what to buy.

The Sears products are VERY popular, and if the problem was endemic, I would expect there to be more information about it, and more concern on the part of Sears. From what I can see, there does not seem to a sense of urgency either from Sears or the Lawyers handling the case. Apparently, the lawsuit was filed in Canada in September of 2013, with all activity to dat occurring on 2 days.

What do you know ... Kenmore, Whirlpool, etc DID issue recalls for dishwashers due to a fire hazard. CPSC.gov Dishwasher Recalls

Options

We are interested in Dishwashers that are under $500, that clean well and have a decent rack layout.
