10 things to do to get a mower deck ready for use after sitting for a while. Should check these things at least once a year.

Be sure to check the owners manual as well.

  1. Check Gear Box Oil level and color
  2. Grease EVERYTHING! Don't forget the tail wheel.
  3. Hook up to tractor and move it to check for animals under it. Check for spilled oil after moving it. May indicate oil leak.
  4. Put the Mower Deck up on Jack Stands and crawl under it.
    • Inspect the blades. they should rotate freely on their hub pivots.
    • Check that there is nothing wrapped around the drive shaft.
    • Inspect the blade edges and make sure nothing is bent.
  5. Check all teh bolts on the machine for torque.
    • Focus on the bolts for the drive unit
  6. Check the sheer bolts, and be sure we have extras.
  7. Check that the deck is level, left to right.
  8. Little lower in the front than in the back. (Tilt forward slightly)
  9. Check the height of the deck on the ground.
