We are considering the following Oven : Frigidaire Gallery 30" from Best Buy or Frigidaire Gallery 30" from HomeDepot

  • The current Oven is original to the house and is a 'drop in' unit. It is 29.5 inches wide, and so is the opening.
  • The new Oven is a free standing unit, 29.875 (7/8) inches wide so the opening will need to be widened by .375 inches (3/8) and the lower 'kick plate' will need to be removed from the counter cabinet assembly.

To widen the opening, I'm considering the purchase of the Dremel 7.5amp Ultra Saw from HomeDepot. it should be the perfect tool for the job since the right side of the Oven opening appears to have the most space to allow for the widening. The left side may simply require sanding and basic cleanup and new laminate on the inside edge.

When gauging the 'final width' of the opening, the actual width of the stove + thickness of 2 layers of whatever laminate I use to cover the inward face of the counter + at least 2 more layers of laminate for 'spacers' to make sure the unit isn't too tight in the opening, preventing it's installation and potential removal later if needed. Depending how thick the laminate is, it may require additional layers.

I still need to measure the 'depth' of the existing Oven.

The new Stove has been installed and is AWESOME!!!!
